Eye Make Up Ideas for the Novice Artist
Applying eyeliner well is a skill that can make a huge difference in the appearance of your eyes and how professional they look. Applying too much or too little eyeliner can really set back your look, as can sharp lines or mismatched eyes.
You can learn how to apply eyeliner like a true makeup artist with enough practice and attention to detail. Here are some top pointers to get you started on the path to beautiful eyes.
If you are using an eyeliner pencil, make sure you apply your eyeshadow first as a base. Doing your eyeliner last will make it look bolder and more noticeable.
However, you should always smudge your eyeliner line. You don't want a sharp or jagged line. Use a smudge brush or Q-tip to lightly smudge it and blend it into your eyeshadow.
How to Put on Eyeliner Precisely
When applying your eyeliner, make sure that you always follow as close to the lash line as possible, at least to start with. If you are going for a more dramatic look, go ahead and start with a thin line from the inside corner of your eye.
As you approach the midway point, start to make your line thicker. Once you reach the outside corner of your eye, gently flick the liner out into a tiny wing. If you are a little unsure of yourself, draw your line first in pencil. Then, cover the pencil line with a liquid liner for a pretty evening look.
Another thing to remember is to choose your colors wisely. If you are going for a natural day look, choose a brown or black eyeliner.
Blondes and medium brunettes should stick with brown liner shades for a pretty yet natural style. If you want to create a bolder, beautiful look, experiment with some bright eyeliner colors. Navy blue, olive green, and violet make great eyeliners, especially when they “wing out” slightly at the outer corners for an exotic look.
This can be done with either a pencil, eyeliner pen, or angled eyeliner brush. Which brings me to my next point...
Fabulous Eye Makeup Looks and Products
If you want to save some money and have high quality makeup at the same time, consider buying a top-of-the-line eyeliner pot, and use your own angled liner brush to apply it.
These pots will last you a long time, well worth the price that they cost. Eyeliner pencils and pens will wear down, eventually costing your more than the more expensive makeup. We like Make Up Forever Aqua Cream Liner, $20.
